Any chance a run class could be created for convertibles without rollbars? I have seen a few car club events creating this class this year to accomodate the demand. It could be speed restricted and require an instructor ride along to enforce the rules.

Just an idea....

Love my car, love track events, and would attend if I could run. Just have no interest in installing a rollbar...ruins the line of the car.

Then again, I could just go buy a coupe if I could get the wife on board.

It is not that we do not want convertibles to particiapte without rollbars. Our insurance carrier, Naughton Insurance will NOT allow any cars on track without a rollbar.
Sorry

You might want to consider having a roll bar/roll cage just to drive on the road.

Gingerman 2006

How/where do I register for the Gingerman event this year? I can't find any links to the Great Lakes chapter events.

You register at the same place as the Autobahn. I had a little trouble myself navigating the website myself at first but here is a link to the Gingerman event.

This Autobahn event is less then a week away. Those coming from Michigan and northern Indiana may want to know about the traffic delays you may encounter on I-80 between the IL/IN state line and the I-294/I-80 cutoff. This is a distance of about 6-7 miles but depending on the time of day traffic could be "good" or a parking lot.

There are some overhead signs that give traffic info but are not always updated or accurate. You can also tune in to AM 780. They give traffic updates every 10 minutes. They don't cover all roads in every report but its better then driving "blind". Last you can just get off and take alternate routes.

The easiest but not the fastest is to exit I-80 at I-65/South, Indianapolis Blvd. South, Calumet Ave. South, or Torrence Ave. South (the last exit before the normal backups). The above exits are in the order you would come to them. You would proceed south on I-65 & Indpls. Blvd. until you junction with US 30. You would then go west to just accross the IN/IL state line. There will then be a road at a light on your left called "Sauk Trail". This road will if you stay on it will turn into Larraway Rd, the same Larraway Rd you turn onto to get to the Autobahn. You won't set speed records on this route but you will get there without any traffic problems. The speed limit along this route varies from 55 down to 30 with most of the route being 45-50 mph.

You can also stay on Rt. 30 until you hit I-57 then head back north to I-80. Which will put you past the traffic/const. back ups but that section of RT30 from Torrence Ave to I-57 can be slow (30-40 mph) but not as slow as sitting in a 6 mile back up on westbound I-80. NOTE! Just after you cross the IN/IL state line but after the Sauk Trail cutoff you will have to make a LEFT TURN in order to remain on RT30. You will see only a small sign indicating your need to turn left for RT30. There is a light there and double left turn lanes. Just watch the "Big" trucks as they all turn there to remain on Rt30. If you want you can go straight here to Rt83. Take it to Torrence Ave. turn left then the first right-Joe Orr Rd. Follow the directions below.

If you exit at Calumet or Torrence Ave you can take a different route. Go south on Calumet about 2 miles to a set of RR tracks. Just after crossing the tracks turn right/west. The street will be 45th Ave. Take this west. Note the Mobil gas station about a mile down. This station is in IN and gas is $0.12-$0.15 cheaper per gallon then in IL. BUY IT NOW! Continue west, The road will go from 4 down to 2 lanes at Burnham Ave. The next light will be Torrence, Turn left/south. Go just past the next light (Glenwood-Dyer Rd) and turn right onto Joe Orr Rd, it will be the first street on the right. You can also go south to Rt 30 and follow the above directions. If you coose Joe Orr Rd. (the better route) take it west until it ends at Western Ave. Turn left/south 1/2 mile to Rt 30. Turn right onto west Rt30 to Jct. I-57. Take I-57 north to Jct. I-80 west. Then follow the normal route to the Autobahn.

There are a number of other routes but the directions can get complicated or you will need a detailed map of the area. Good Luck!

One thing I did not mention was if you choose to stay on I-80 past Torrence Ave. If you do and traffic backs up you have two options. Exit at Halsted and head south to Joe Orr Rd or Rt 30. Then follow directions above. If traffic is moving OK to I-294 (Left lanes) but I-80 is backed up (Right lanes) take I-294. You will get to a toll booth about a mile past the I-80 ramp. Pay your toll. It will be a bit higher, $0.80 for cars with cash and double for cars/trucks W/trailers. This is 25% higher then if you took the I-80 ramp but you will have to sit in the traffic back up on the ramp to save this money. Just a mile past the I-294 toll booth is an exit. This is 159th st. Take this exit west bound. You will go about 1 mile west to Juct. I-57. Take this south to Jct.
I-80 west and you will be clear of the traffic.
