View Full Version : Track times
Mybe someone can answer a ? If the 03 cobras have over 400 RWH, how come a lot of the times I see on the board are so slow? Like 12.8, with that RWH I woud think that the cars should be in the 11s. Mybe someone can explain please.
Thanks, Nick

Well Nick, one thing you have to look at, is the ability of the individual. It;s not set in stone that having xxx RWHP will equal XXX ET. You still have to drive the car to ET well, it won't just happen by accident.
One of the many hats I wear is Compulink operator at Great Lakes Dragaway, and I have seens thousands and thousands of dragstrip passes. I have seen some do much with less, and some do little with more.
If you look to formulate an opinion on the RWHP vs. the ET results, analyze the 60 foot times. if you see a 12.8 posted, but the 60 foot time is 2.3 for example, it would be quite obvious that there is much more ET potential in the car.
As someone old enough to remember the original Musclecars, I am very impressed with the new Cobras.
Thanks, So if you can drive, and get the car to hook, with that WHP, you can the much better times.
Thanks again, Nick

I saw several 03s lately running 12.0s and some dip into the 11.90s.I didn't see the 60 fts but I bet they were down there.:spinem:

This past October, I ran a 12.019 @ 110 mph with a friends 03 Cobra. His best time was a 12.8. It's definitely about the driver.

Hey Greg, who says you have to be old to consider the old muscle cars and thier traction limitations when seeing the new Cobras perform?
Unless you are trying to say something? ;)

I used to say that you could not trust anyone over 30.
Now i don't think you can trust anyone under 40.
Here is the difference in the muscle cars of the 60s compared to the 03 Cobra:
In 1970 my daily driver was a '68 Hemi Roadrunner. 426 ci, 425 hp. 4 wheel drum brakes, manual steering. "78" series tires subbed on for 8.25X15 rubber. Dual quads and solid lifters.
I had to change the spark plugs every 200 miles due to fuel fouling. It made less than 4 mpg.
I had to adjust the valves at less than 1,000 mile intervals.
It was difficult to make the beast run straight down the road. It did not turn unless driven slow.
It turned consistent 13.50 quarters with 10.5 inch wrinkle walls.
I paid $1,350 for the road runner when it had 18,000 miles. I sold it for $1,500 2 years later.
The kool thing about being old is that now I can afford the kool stuff I always wanted, like a baby super car. My full coverage insurnane is a little more than $400 per 6 months on the terminator. Somehow, long ago, I finally learned not to smoke the tires in front of a cop.

So does someone who's 40 meet the
test? Just kidding Jim. Is that
35th year anniversary man with the camera?
Forgot his name.

Speaking of Age.
That is Duaine Hooker, the 35th Aniv. Man strapping into the race car for some hot laps at Bondurant.
How does 40 fit? Whatch out the next ten years go by too fast. You have the right car to get you through them.
Actually I am glad to hear that you are retireing. Now we can do some lead and follow up Hwy 67.

Yeah Jim 40 fits great.
Thought that was Dwayne, he has more
pictures of my old rides than I do :D
Yep 67 is a blast early in the morning no traffic.
Did ya get my msg on the weekend in April?
I'm definately game. Gee retiring and getting a job
that I can actually be home more than 6 months
out of the year, I'm ready to do some fun stuff:tmb:

:) The original questions is like asking John Force why his six thousand horse ppoweer funny car turns ONLY a low 300 MPH. Adding tons of horse power is never the trotal answer to going faster. If you can not get the tires to stick enough to PUSH the car to 300 MPH your wasting a lot of energy, wear and tear on whatever your driving! I witnessed four 03 cobras on a dyno turn such different ratings I thought there was someting wrong with the dyno. One was a low as 348 hp and the last one pulled 397...go figure!

but @ 115 mph on a 2.0 short time.
traction on the 315 pirellis is pretty much non-existant!
switching to Nittos soon!
