I loved the car, the handling, the looks everything about it. However the service provided by my dealer as well as my appeal to SVT directly has left me with a sour taste about Ford products.

My Contour SVT (presently 60k or 35,000 miles on the car)was plagued with
continuous service issues some that have never been resolved. Probably most disappointing was the warped dash issue.( I will upload pic when I have them available) I travel extensively and when I got the recall notice for the dash I was out of the country for about 11 months. When I approached the dealer to have the dash repaired (the dash cover has lifted so much its hard to see through the windshield) I was told the recall had expired. (one year only).

Subsequent appeals to SVT were a waste of my time. I own Japanese products also. Never heard of a one year recall.

My next performance vehicle will not be a Ford. With service like that its not surprising American manufacturers are going broke.

Oh. after ten visits to the dealer, once in a while the revs still stay stuck at 4,000 rpm. They have never been able to repair that.

there is no such thing as a one year recall. i've taken 89 t birds in for recalls 10 years later and they were performed. the government doesn't allow safety recalls to expire that quickly. TSBs are a different story. was the dash problem a TSB or a safety recall?

The warped dashboard was more of a "cosmetic recall", from what Contour owners have told me on the Contour Enthusiasts Group (www.contour.org). The offer to fix it seems to vary - I get confused when other owners talk about it. From the sounds of it, it was probably technically a Service Campaign (like the non-SVT Focus' DPFE sensors or rear wheel bearings).

As for a stuck rev, hmm... I'm sure if you went to the SVT Contour section here and on Contour.org, you might get a better handle on the situation. Some dealers (domestic, European, or import) are a pain to deal with, whereas some dealers will go to great lengths to find out what's wrong.

As for mileage, that's a VERY low mileage! A few folks here have gone past 100,000 km...and even 300,000 km on their Contour SVT's. :)

yes, as the next poster mentioned when it has to do with appearance it is only valid for a year. However my Toyota dealership told me that they have never heard of a one year expiry date on recalls for their cars....appearance or safety wise.

I guess that means that I you are with a gov dept were you accept postings for over a year that you had better not purchase a Ford product!
