:fryem: I started this thread in a different section, but this subject seems to fit this area as well.
Any way, I would like to know if anyone is experincing oil starvation on start-up. When I start this vehicle, it sounds like every valve is rattling. I have my 01 snake serviced by the dealer only and they always make the same comment "its normal". I'm a bit concern that engine damage may be occuring.
Also, I have noticed that it emits blue smoke from the exhaust. It only happened once, last year and it was quite embarrassing, especially when it happen in a public place.
Any thoughts on this.

I have an 03 cobra and have never noticed it on mine (we'll see what happens in a couple of years). I called a buddy of mine in DC, he has an 01 cobra and said he has not experienced the start up noises that you have, nor the blue smoke. He said maybe a burnt ring ?????????????

Its due for service and I will mention to the Dealer to make sure to test the check valve in the filter. They said they will bench check the oil filter prior to installing it. It is documented and witnessed by the dealer for the blue smoke. They are watching the consumption of oil and so far it is very little, less than 8 oz. that is based on 5k oil chgs. intervals. They have look into some of the cylinders with a scope and so far everything looks normal. They have mentioned to me that 90 percent of these cars will send blue smoke out the exhaust. They think it may be some puddling somewhere on top and it is either being suck up through the pvc valve or leaking on the seals into the cylinders overnight. Time will tell.
My main concern is when ever the vehicle is started, it revs to approx 2500 rpms and oil doesn't have time to build pressure (oil starvation) and over time damage will occur to the engine. This is an inherent to all Cobras 01's and 03's that I'm aware of. This is also documented and they cannot adjust the start-up rpm.
I have had 3 Cobras, 1996, 1997 and 2003. The 1996 and 1997 both had the fast idle on startup, the 2003 does not. I once asked a SVT representative at the Mid-America meet in Tulsa why they made the engines rev so high on startup. He told me that their reasoning was to get lubrication to the engine as fast as possible. I don't know that I agree with that. The noise you hear on a cold start is the dry cam chains rattling until the oil reaches them. I am glad the 2003 does not do this, as I never liked hearing that on my other Cobras.
