I have a 04 Cobra and am looking into upgrading my brakes. I am not a into any type of serious kind of racing, or track events. I might join the club out at the track maybe once a year.
I am looking for somthing that will upgrade me from what I have (stock) to somthing that performs better, looks nice, and I dont need a loan to get.
How much?
where do I look?
Thanks.

i wouldnt do anything...cobras come with Brembo brakes that cost $3000+....i mean its almost impossible to find something better than brembo that isnt a lot more expensive

03/04 Cobras come with Brembo Rotors and Twin Piston PBR Calipers on the front. I ran the stock setup for two years at On Track Events, and they did well. I did change the front pads to Hawk High Performance Pads, and changed my brake fluid to a high performance fluid.
This past year I upgraded to the 2000 Cobra R Brakes, 4 Piston Brembo Calipers with Slotted Rotors along with the Kenny Brown Brake Cooling Kit. This has helped even more, with longer pad and rotor life.
I bought the Cobra R Brake Kit from www.buyfordracing.com Best price I could find at the time.

I have to agree with the forum...
The stock brakes are great for the occasional "events". So far, I've run the stock calipers and rotors at 13 on-track events with no problems.
I've been running the Hawk HP Plus Race pads (The stock pads just couldn't handle the heat.), but don't like the squeal I've been getting. Next season I'm going to try the Porterfield R4S pads.
If you really want to do a break upgrade, then I would suggest the Cobra "R" brake kit. This is really a Brembo kit, for less money and you get the peace of mind knowing it will work on your car.
Good luck! :spinem:

Thanks for the input, sounds like you have all just saved me some big $$$$$.
I will change the pads and just move on. I was kind of hoping to get some drilled rotors, but if they are good brakes then I will just do with what is on it.
Thanks again.

I would stay away from cross-drilled rotors if you plan on doing any real track driving. Cross-drilled have a habit of cracking.
If you're looking for some style, with performance, you may want to look at the Power Slots, with dimples.

What bhartman said, if your are going to do On Track Events, do not use the cross drilled rotors! I have seen a few of them crack after one or two runs! The slotted rotors work pretty good, but when I wear out the ones that came with the kit I am going to be using the regular Brembo Rotors.

I tried the slotted rotors (Power Slots) as well and went back to stock Brembo Rotors. I found that the slotted rotors were working as intended and were shaving my brake pads. At my driving skill level, I did not see enough performance difference with the slotted rotors to justify the added cost and extra pad wear.
