View Full Version : Any one else notice their lights flicker at night?

Since my car was new, the headlights and dash lights flicker like there is a problem with the alternator. If any one else has this problem with their SVTF please let me know! I'm trying to find out if this is a common problem or not. The dealer says it's normal but I don't think so. My girlfriend drives a normal focus and doesn't experience this problem. I can't figure it out.

I noticed the same thing yesterday but only at idle. Once I started moving it seemed to clear itself up. BUT.... I'm not staring at the dash while I'm driving.....;)

I belive it is normal cause it happens on mine too. Because our sound system needs more power we are using a more powerful amp. But with the same power supply that a regular focus has. It only happens at idle and only when I have the volume at about 12.

I have the same problem.. only at idle... my dealer told me ford is working on it and hope to have a fix in the first quarter of the new year

yes, I can confirm I have this problem too. Not too annoying, but its there.

:( Ditto: I've noticed that the odometer backlight flickers most...only at idle and only if you goose it a bit...as the motor revs down, it seems to flicker more.

Hey breon,

You used to... how'd you fix it??? all I have been told is that svt is working on it... If you have it fixed what did you do to fix it???

I had a similar problem at about 25,000 km on my ZTS.

That problem...plus a near-stall on the main highway got a prompt visit to the dealer. They discovered it was a loose ground wire. It was told to me to be a very common Focus issue because the grounding point didn't care for the materials of the body and the wire.

My interior dash lights flicker at times, but I think it's just surging.

I think this is pretty common among related blood-lines like the Contiques and Cougars.

mine too. The odometer and overhead light I think its only happening at idle:confused:

Howdy:

I noticed the same thing. My lights (exterior and interior) will flikcer slightly when idling after I flip the throttle for a second. It seems that when the cars idles too slow for s short second or two, the alternator is struggling. I am not too concerned about it because it only happens after I flick the throttle.
