What mods should I do to my truck to keep it on the road but at the same time go to the strip and be able to compete. I trust Dave and have pretty much assembled my wish list from his help, but now that I have the money and will be taking my truck to his shop I'm starting to get cold feet as I read people who have blown thier engines. most people have blamed it on the boost by pass. I just paid off my extended warrenty and with a 4X4 trans pan, #6 pulley, K&N, 90mm maf, oil breather cap, super chip flip chip, Line mod valve, & Spark plugs. should I just go and cancle my warrenty and get some money back? or should I not beef it up so much? I only go to the track every now and then, as my job does not allow it very often. I'm lost and scared to screw up my truck. I also drive 38K a year. Thanks Woody 2000L:huh:

Amen Woody!!!!!!!!!!

Same EXACT questions here!!!!!!!

I have already seen Dave and done the mods in my sig, and I want to add more boost and the other basics WITHOUT BLOWNING a rod or sending a spark plug through my hood!!!

Any help is appreciated

As for the warranty. You need to go to your dealer and find out what they will allow. If you don't think they are right or to restrictive go to another dealer that will work with you. Like my dealer doesn't really care what mods I make, except for a chip. But the kinda mods your looking at will take a chip. for me right now not doing those mods and not having the chip is OK. Maybe for you it isn't. Main thing is to talk to the dealer and what I mean by that are the people that service the car and what I mean by that is not the person that takes your service order, but the actual person doing the work.

Good Luck

Woody, your concerns are justifiable but you have half the battle won in that you have found someone you trust and can work with IN PERSON, especially if they have the ability to tune your truck on a dyno and adjust a/f ratios throughout the power band. I would communicate your concerns and have it tuned according to the level of risk you are willing to undertake.

In my humble opinion, I think a 6# pulley is only asking for trouble. It seems the only motors I see blowing up are using 6#ers with this guy being the most recent I've seen http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33080 Maybe I'm not paying attention to all the blown motor posts but I see very few daily drivers have had problems with 4#s or less.

If you are concered about reliability and don't need to be the fastest L on the East Coast, stick to a 2 or 4# pulley. :)

Does anyone have Daves phone #? I have to break the news to him that I can not afford to void my factory Warrenty so what I'm looking at right now is a shaker hood, traction bars, slicks, drive shaft loop, and or bassani cat back. I figure that way I can bracket race and have a good time with out worring about my warrenty.

Woody,
I too understand your concerns, however alot of the bad things that happen to these trucks are from over aggressive tuning and or poor tuning. All my "friends"(cant advertise!) who race with me on a regular basis all run 4-6lbs of boost on daily driven trucks. One of them along with myself also run nitrous as well. My chip tuner is very safe in terms of tuning and as Jimmy will tell you makes alot of power in doing so. In the 15 or more trucks that I have put together I have yet to see one problem. Keep in mind that we can put together a nice package with little to no boost simular to Jimmys set up. Give me a call at the # above and I will address all your concerns. 11.81 ets(w/o gas)/14.5psi/NOS/over 100 track passes/daily driven w/ daily beatings/33000k and still going strong.

My truck is a daily driver, (except winters) and also sees the drag strip quite frequently. I've been running a #6 lower pulley since August 2001 WITHOUT any problems. I also have a 50hp Nitrous.

And although I plan to build the motor this winter and get the kenne bell upgrade, it's been fine to date.

ok I here is the real truth of the matter. My wife said NO, not with out a warrenty from someone after having spent so much on the ford extended warrenty. So I'll give you a call as soon as I can, Thanks dave. I want all the power that s out there but I have to also live with her.:bash:

Woody,

I also didn't want to give you the wrong impression about mods. I know Dave from talks we've had and when I'm ready to do the mods to my truck he's the person I'll use. I really believe his experience with the trucks accounts for alot. I too have the same problem with the wife..plus if something happens I like having the warranty to rely on, thats why I've went with cosmetic mods for the time being. I'm not looking as much for a dragger as I'm looking for speed if needed, but I'd also like to show my truck also.

Well, depending on how the conversation with your wife was left, there are some performance mods you could do that shouldn't void the warranty. Since you have a 2000 things like a cold air intake, smooth intake tube, throttle body, aluminum driveshaft with loop, 3.73 gears (Ford would probably have to install these for warranty), cat-back exhaust are some things you can do pretty safely so that when you're ready to make the jump to a pulley and chip, you've got them out of the way already. Even the Plasma Booster which shows some promise for hp http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33323 is a mod that is easily removed for trips to the dealer and I don't think it leaves any tracks behind.

If not, there's always the bling-bling to work on to keep it interesting like jimmylightning said.

Good luck :spinem:

I just talked with both my wife and Dave. I will be at daves door in the morning. If you are worried about warrenty. You should talk to dave in depth he has some ways to help us all out. I can now live in peace with my family and my truck. Thanks again dave. See ya Soon. :D

Ok woody, Let me describe the apples to oranges difference in the way my truck acts now as compared to before the 3 little mods that were done last month.

Before........FAST truck that will launch like a rocket and pull all the way to 125 (fast as I have had it) ..........like yours.

After..........RIP SNORTING, blow your tires off at any speed under 35mph on a WOT launch. Shifts great!! Sounds even better!!! Like a whole new truck. Without a dyno I couldn't tell you numbers but there is no doubt the massive hp and tq gains!!

Any other help lemme know.

Blown SVT where are you located? And do you go to the track at darlington at all?

BlownSVT
12-18-2002, 05:11 PM
Loctated in Spartanburg SC and I have never been to darlington with my L. I have yet to race it (legally) for that matter. I have no clue of my et's or anything all I know is this thing is balls out much faster if I can just get some traction.

Me and Dave were talking and as soon as I can do some preventative maintenance stuff......i.e. alignment, fuel filter, oil (of course) and maybe 2 new tires for up front (due to cupping....see alignment) I would love to go to the track with you guys.

Hit me back

By the way where are you located woody? There is a meet @ Myrtle Beach on the 18th of Jan that me and the wife will attend.
If you are interested look at the south carolina chapter forum for more details.

I'm not sure when Darlington is going to be open again because of the Christmas season. But I find it to be a nice track. Alot of people have told me it is better than Jackson (the only other 1/4 mile track I know of in S.C.) but I liked jackson just fine. I can say I ran faster in darlington though. I ran a 13.616 @ 99.23 MPH best time. Totally stock down to the air box. However I plan to hit the track as soon as dave lays the touch to my truck.

12-18-2002, 05:21 PM
Dang that is a nice time!!!!!!! Bone stock......dang I wonder what I might be capable of? Anyway I am a rookie driver.......will probably smoke my way to a 15 sec 60ft time or something.....lol

Did you go to the meeting we just had in Myrtle beach? I would love to go but I don't get much time off. I'm a Drill Sergeant in the Army. If it happens that I can take a pass I will hit it again. Myrtle beach id great and the guys who were there last meeting worked out alot of meeting places and events. I hope to have alot of fun the comming year.:spinem:

I'm talking like I know a thing or two, Right. Don't let it fool you. I had never raced on a real drag strip until 3 months ago at an svtoa meeting. Wow drag racing is more addictive that crack. It is deep in my blood now. I would almost sell my mother to get some mods and slicks. LOL:D I say almost but I know no one would take her LOL

Cool I understand dude, I was in the Marines for 6yrs and you Drill Instructor types:) don't get hardly any time off. Thats why I am a nasty civilian now.........much easier on the home life. LOL.

Well I hope to see you at some of the meetings next yr and I hope to se ME at some of them for that matter. I don't get much time off myself but atleast I get overtime!!:tmb:

Anyway later,

LOL I do understand!!!!!!!!!!! My wife damn near banned me from messing with my L at all. My former BOYZ TOY S-10 has enough money sunk in it to buy a good used L and I still couldn't get more than 7k for it.........damn.

So I tricked her with the "bolt on" statement and she rues the day that she agreed to it:D

Plus I just rolled 36k on the odometer so "bye bye mr. warranty"

Woodyslo93

how much did you pay for your snuglid?

BlownSVT
12-18-2002, 05:36 PM
900 big ones...........to the door. No carpet.......like 75 buck extra and had to wait 2 more weeks and I needed it for the roadtrip back home to OKie so i could smoke my b-in-laws Gen 1.

It looks really clean for all the ones I have seen. It hides the rail guards and is low profile. The only one that I am starting to like better is the smoothie with the little z 28 wing molded on it.........growing on me.

Anyway had to order it from someplace in MO. Go to the snugtop website and after you do a search for a dealer in your area........none........they will give you a place that can ship you one and best part is no sales tax!!

It was a cinch to install.......2 guys.........20 min.......unless you have a bed liner then you need a dremel to cut out holes for the clamps.

Woodyslo93
12-18-2002, 05:37 PM
Wow that is funny my wife was soo against me buying stuff for my truck because of the money I sunk in to my toyota(boys toys) wow. I guess it is in our blood.

Woodyslo93
12-18-2002, 05:39 PM
do you still have the soft cover?

BlownSVT
12-18-2002, 05:39 PM
yeah and my wife cannot comprehend why it just burns me up to sit at a light with a vehicle that looks JUST LIKE mine........except for the L that is sweet. Although I do like to think........well I have this nice little shiny thing that he doesn't have. LOL I am such a dang Nut.

My wife wants it JUST the way She wants it from the factory........no add ons............lame.

BlownSVT
12-18-2002, 05:43 PM
Never had the soft cover...............I bought my L used from a " lil' ol' man" I know who used it for back & forth to work. Low miles and never dogged. Shoot he has 3 Shelby Cobras (1 REAL) and a 427 Thunderbolt (concourse restored) He knows what really fast is all about.

Woodyslo93
12-18-2002, 05:43 PM
Well I have it a little better my wife drag races my truck too. she is pretty good too. but she is just worried about the warrenty. she does like customizing cars but not as much as me. her 2000 Yellow jeep wrangler had to get a set of centerline hellcats and bfgoodrich ta's before she had the jeep for a week. along with a K&N force air induction kit. so she is cool just worried.

Woodyslo93
12-18-2002, 05:44 PM

mine compensates by requiring an enormous initial investment in the car!!!!!!!!!

Her next baby will be an overpriced import luxury of her choice......gotta love her........

And if I hear........" I don't understand.......your truck is already really fast and besides where are you gonna go 150+ mph anyway????" one more time I'm gonna puke.:D

Woodyslo93
12-18-2002, 05:48 PM
I know what you mean. next time tell her I'll shoot for 150 at darlington.

BlownSVT
12-18-2002, 05:49 PM
