I have heard that the new GT500 will be available at
every Ford Dealer. A lot of the SVT dealers seem to
be upset about that. Anyone have any info on this?

That was an earlier message, what I heard lately was that the
regular mass Ford Dealers would be able to participate. No reqs.
And that seemed against everything that we bought in to.

But what the heck. It's their market to destroy ...

With sales almost a year off, I don't think that they've determined it yet.

well, but for ANY dealer to get one, it must mean they have to apply for and meet the certification requirements to be an SVT dealer. If they don't do that, then they have to rely on the mustang "share-of-the-nation formula" to get one....whatever that is.

Believe me, the SVT full line dealers are going to get preferential treeatment. So will the dealers who only sold SVT Focuses.

What I would love to have is an address list of all SVT dealers and president's award dealers so I can make an allocation map.

I'm betting this is all gonna change ... The SVT dealers are all pi$$ed
about not having any product to sell, the market share of performance
vehicles is moving to Dodge (Who seem to be able to produce pretty
reasonable facsimile's of FAST cars in a much shorter duration than
the other manufacturer's), and I think Ford will produce many more than
the predicted plan. (I heard a number of 44,000, but that may be a bit high)

Anyway, since you can't even order one yet (WTG, Marketing!!!) it's
a moot point. And the Z06 is looking better every minute.

no way they will produce 44000. We'll be lucky to see over 10k.

10,000 would be the upper limit since the suppliers for some of the parts in the car will not be able to make enough to build many more than that. Also remember the plant the car will be build at is running at full capacity now and adding 44000 to the production run would be really hard to do. Adding 10,000 is going to be hard enough.

Dealers in our area can't even seem to get Mustang GTs to sell, but have V6s sitting on the lot!

I wonder what SVTOA & Ford are waiting for! The issues of cost, vehicle weight, who will be able to sell them and how, date of first mass production, 93 vs 91 vs 89 vs 87 octane, marketing venue, etc ad nauseum, are hurting the "Shelby Cobras" (svt?) future markets! :hbomb:
I believe they let the cat out of the bag PREMATURELY. The "so-called" power lease started promoting the car FAR too early! Now Ford & SVTOA have frustrated and impatient dealers AND would be customers!!! :knock:

Yes, I stand corrected... I meant "SVT" not "SVTOA."
I believe SVTs change in Admin. has been a large negative at this point!
:barfy:
Can I get an "amen?"

June of next year has always been the date that SVT has said the new Cobra would be availible. The car is still in testing at this point. They have build like 40 test mules that are running around the country and on tracks to make sure eveything will work as planned. The next step is to build some cars on the assembly line and then they can start production runs.

The delay in ordering one is that SVT/Ford wants to make sure that people will get the car when they say. Until testing is done, they can not put a date on everything.

Clint--I believe Ford gave the Lightning power lease people something because of now no new Truck. The power lease still applies to the Cobra.

I thought I'd just mention, Ford has officially dropped the name "Cobra" and it will be called the "Shelby GT500" only. it will, however, still have snake emblems on it.

SVT Shelby?? or just Shelby??

funny considering shelby's greatest involvement with the car was a few test drives/photo ops.

bad move IMO. Take a group that produced cars worthy of the Cobra name and badge, and have them pay someone else to use a name never affiliated with the group.

I'm sure the old schoolers in SVT (are there any left?) think this stinks.

From what I've heard, it will just be Ford Shelby GT500, with no 'SVT' or 'Cobra' wording on the car, just the Cobra snake logo.

yee haw. I'm sure that SVToa is happy about that.

Honestly folks, I think SVTOA needs to restructure and just become the "Ford Performance Club" since it doesnt look like there will be a "true" SVT anytime soon.

Here's the scoop:

http://thegt500source.com/2005/articles/shelbyincobraout05nov.html

05 November 2005
Robert Lane

(Dearborn, MI). After years of speculation, it is now official - a Ford spokesman told TheGT500Source.com that they will drop the Cobra name from the next generation SVT Mustang. SVT's upcoming Mustang will now appear as the Mustang Shelby GT500. Up until now, Ford has referred to the next genertion SVT Mustang as the "Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500."

The discontinuation of the Cobra nameplate, which had been used consistently since 1993 was first reported by BlueOvalNews.com in 2000.
Ford told TheGT500Source that the SHELBY rear decklid lettering will be used on the production version of the GT500.
Despite dropping the Cobra name, the Cobra emblem will remain a facet on the GT500.

While many SVT Cobra faithful may be disappointed by the decision to drop the Cobra name, even temporarily, they can take solace in the fact that the replacement nameplate was the one that made the Cobra name what it is today anyway - SHELBY. Moreover, since the Cobra emblem will remain on the car, it's really just a matter of semantics.

What's a Shelby without saying, well, "Shelby?"

Since numerous GT500 prototypes have been photographed without the SHELBY lettering on the decklid, GT500 enthusiasts have been debating on TheGT500SourceForums as to whether Ford will use the SHELBY lettering on the rear decklid of the production model.

Ford told TheGT500Source that the SHELBY name will appear on the production model of the decklid, just as it has with every Shelby Mustang made from 1967-1970.

The disappearance of the Cobra name from the GT500 doesn't mean the Cobra name will not appear on another SVT Mustang, nor does it mean that it won't appear on some other Ford model.

Even though I am a Dealer Advisor for SVTOA, I understand your reference above, since the club is open to non-SVT products already (Marauder, Mach 1, 5.0 and 4.6 GT's, not to mention non-Ford's like Mazda, Jaguar, et al).

'Ford Performance Club' - has a nice ring to it, though.

Why not go one step further and almalgamate with the Aussies? I know, I know, I can hear everyone out there saying "Oh, no, he's on another Falcon kick!" But hear me out on this one....

Ford Australia has the Ford Performance Vehicles Division - their version, if you will, of SVT - known as FPV. Why not make it a worldwide organization under the FPV Banner? This way it will include all Ford PERFORMANCE vehicles, which is what this type of club is about anyway - PERFORMANCE.

Think of the member numbers a Club like this could have - like SAAC or MCA.

SAAC membership is about 5500 and MCA membership is 11,068. SAAC number is impressive when you consider the number of actual Shelby vehicles produced. MCA number is low when you consider Ford has produced millions of Mustangs. Most people in MCA also complain about the $40 annual dues and think that is what keeps membership low. If it was lowered to $20 do you think twice as many people would be members?

MCA isn't the only group that has members (or ex-members) complaining about the $40 fee.

I, for one, would continue and plan to continue to pay $40 per year. I know it is worth it.

On the other hand, I have been finding it hard to get others to pay $40. They just have not experienced the value for themselves. [One trip in a Ford GT round a track would change their minds].

Maybe there should be a subscription/web site only level ($10/$15 year) and a POWER USER level (gaining On-Track discounts, and other vendor discounts) at $40+ a year.

 Does anyone know if "they" will be keeping the SVT on the new non-Cobra?
What a cluster-**** !! :thud:
What about the SVT dealers? distribution? I read an article in Car & driver or Road & Track saying this pig will weigh over 4,000 lbs !!! So much for improved peformance!

I pay the yearly fee just for support of SVTOA,
I never have time to enjoy the benifits nationaly or locally

But when SVT was at its prime the vehicles built were top notch
and if they never build (a true) another SVT vehicle I will still pay the dues

Its not all about what you get, but instead of what you've already been given
