I'll see if any contacts I have in the provincial ministries can get me a copy.
As for those on-line petitions, they are running rampant on all forums. Great intentions, but some of those "comments" people have left really bring down the "seriousness" of the issue.
You think some of the major car clubs in Ontario would band together ;)

I was driving on the Autobond and remember coming up on a slow car "flashing him to pass" and he moved over, now that would be a beautiful idea in a country that here in Canada gets you a middle finger. Or when you get to a construction site and people just don't slow down unlike the States when you do get to a area where there is road improvements being done I have alot of the times seen a Trooper sitting there with lights on not to give people a ticket but to show a defenit presence and people do slow down.
I see how blind government can be and usually the wrong thing is done to solve a problem that is easily fixed, you ask how I say it is very simple EDUCATION!! Give the people the tools they need to get on the roads and be able to survive on our streets with the ability to drive in the rain and snow , have their cars equiped with proper tires for the climate etc. It's a joke the testing the DOT does to give a person a drivers lic. In a nut shell make testing for a drivers lic. more the same as it is in Europe and a fact even the Government knows is that speed doesn't kill but stupidity does.
I know alot of people have said this a million time but I thought I needed to say it again. get dumb drivers off the road and to driving school. I wonder if Young Drivers of Canada gives their clients the knowledge they really need like skid controll, avoiding accidents, how to brake and steer around a stalled car on the highway in the middle lane etc.
I said enough :tmb:

What do you think is right? I think they should take away the car of anyone caught drag racing on public roads & let the Police use it like they do when they catch a drug dealer. No 2nd chance at all. But thats just me. I was in the Fire service for 33 years & was the one called to cut the bodies out of the wreaks caused by the racers who hit the family car pulling out of the parking lot.

I still remember most of the stuff from YD. I have to admit it was worth the $400 (1994) my parents spent on me. I've had to use the brake-and-avoid a few times, as well as threshold braking. Plus, my instructor had a Z24 V6 with ABS, so I got a crash course in learning how to use ABS.

Hey Firechief I know that street racing is a problem but the real problem is that you have alot of dumb a$$ drivers out there. I don't know all the facts but I could guess that there are more drunks on the road then street racers. I can only hope I don't get into an accident with a drunk driver. They tend to walk and kill who they hit.
In Ontario, Can. they are introducing a breathalizer after a conviction mind you this thing is like a breathalizer that will prevent you car from starting and also at a random interval will ask for a sample will you are driving. I beleive first conviction you have it for a year then after that it becomes a lifetime thing. A step in the right direction if you ask me. But like everything there are loop holes the guy can still drive someone elses car that doesn't have the devise. The thing I also like is that the unit is bought by the convicted driver and doesn't burden the taxpayer.
I still think a place for the street racers to go will keep them off the road. You hang out at the coffee shop, make your bet, then you drive to the track instead of the streets. It would be cool if the money spent on patroling the streets would go to running a track.
To take the car away will not solve the problem it will only fuel it. The answer is not simple and if it was we all could sleep better. I know I don't have the answer but street racing is a part of our lives like it or not.

It's not a bad idea, the problem being that it's not entirely practical in this area just because of all the urban sprawl
now of course if the Cdn Government would be kind enough to sell off the air strips at downsview, it might work :)

most tax dollars go to something useless.... like the gun registry... $1 billion and counting, no end in sight, but the principle of the thing is good :wtf: :fryem:
GaborVincer
01-27-2003, 04:56 PM
Register all the guns so they know who bought the thing but once it's stolen then what?????:guns: :guns: :guns: :guns: the guns are still one the street. Another government wise move to make the streets safer for the criminals:bash: :bash:

well it's all about optics..... just think.... england decided to ban replica handguns because people were using them to commit crimes, so now instead they use real handguns because they are much easier to get...
on top of which since their last round of gun laws went into effect, gun violence is up by 35%....

It almost seems the more you try to control the more people do what you don't want. It seems that Canada is a cultural soup of all nations and it is hard to live together. But we still live in a country that offers alot :tmb:

I think that the more rules that are forced on us, the worse things get... the create new laws, we find ways around them or find a alternitive
somedays anarchy looks good.... but that too would be a pain
