After owning many 5.0's I finally made the jump to a Yellow 98 Cobra Convertible. After purchasing the car I noticed a ticking noise while driving at highway speed (2100 rpm) , and also in most gears while the engine is between 1900-2400 rpm. The car is 100% stock and has only 45K miles on it. I tried to locate the area where the noise is coming from and it appears to be coming from behind/under the rear of the intake. It almost sounds like a thow out bearing chatter/clicking only it doesn't go away when the clutch is depressed. The previous owner had the car serviced at a ford dealership, in May, for the same problem, and they replaced all four tappets on #8 cylinder. Bad news is I live 6-7 hours away from the dealer who conducted the work, or I would march back in there and ask why the noise is back. I keep reading threads from others, and I can't help wonder why the dealerships have such a hard time diognosing and repairing these vehicles. The car runs out perfectly, but since I am going to be driving it as regular transportaion I just want to be sure there isn't any major problem with it. Any thoughts?
