I am getting my car ready for Nashville, and replacing the rear pads and rotors and ran into a problem. The pads seem to be to thick, but I bought them from a Ford Dealer. I have the tool to reset the caliper piston and parking ratchet, so they are at the bottom. The pads will not let me fit the caliper over them!
The part # I have for the Rear Pads is F5ZZ-2200-A
Any advice would be great!

If the calipers are reset ALL the way back and the parking brake is also you just may have the wrong pads. Of course, the rotors are the right ones I take it ??
Have seen where they have the wrong pads and the right box too. Sometimes when someone is checking out 2 different sets they get put into the wrong box.
I would go back to the purchasing dealer and ask to see another set of pads & a rotor to see if they are the same.

Well, I took the pads back this morning and got another set. They are about an 1/8" of an inch thinner than the Ford Factory Pads. They are a Motorcraft replacement pads, and should work without a problem. I bought a set of replacement rotors for the rear from Tirerack the first time I replaced them, and had the original rotors turned so they would be ready the next time I had to replace pads and rotors. I will let you know how it goes!
Thanks for your reply XFIRECHIEF, and why don't you come play in Nashville???

Tom do you have the vented Brembo rotors in the back or are they stock?

Hey Beerkat,
They are the stock pads and rotors on the rear, they are vented and they are a Brembo Rotor, but they came on the car. What I have found is that the same Caliper is used on the Mustang GT, and those rotors are not vented, so it takes a thicker pad. The pads I swapped out should work fine, I will let you know when I put them on.

From what I understand. Only the stock front rotors are manufactured by Brembo, not the rears.
Did they have the Brembo logo on them?

Yup they are Brembo Rotors on the rear!! The extra set I bought from The Tire Rack are the same as the ones that came on the car, minus where Ford has the hubs painted.

Unfortunately, you found out what I found out last year. Ford for some reason lists the wrong rear pads for the Cobra. I too bought them from the dealer only to find out that they were too thick. The parts manager at 2 sepaerate dealerships couldn't figure it out. I can't remember now but I think the last digit in the part number is different...
I ended up buying race pads from Tirerack that fit perfectly.

I just bought set of rear pads that are wrong thickness... based on what you guys have said, and the tech info on the Hawk website.
I had planned to install them this weekend. :knock:
They are Akebono ceramic p/n ACT627 with 0.660 overall thickness.
The online catalogs at RockAuto.com and Akebono say these will fit, but we know this to be wrong, don't we? :upst:
I will see if my machinist neighbor can surface grind them down to 0.585 :thud:

My '04 stock rear rotors were not Brembo's, not painted, and made in Brazil by Vargas with Ford logo and P/N. :wtf:
They were so rusted to the hubs, I had to use a huge brake drum puller and liquid wrench to pop them off.
