since i have recieved my car 2 months ago, i have been complaining of my car making a poping sound out of the tail pipe (exhaust farts)...from everything that i know, this may be a rich condition or a lean condition...this usually happens when i snap the throttle and the rpm reaches over 2000-2500...another guy that owns a SVTF around where i live said that the cam causes this...he said that it was a lumpy cam...i dont care if the car farts half the time, but when it does, the rpm drops right away...i can keep the rpm up, and it causes the car to buck...which gets annoying...the only way to get rid of this is to floor it for a sec...the rpm reaches almost 6000, and then it goes away...i dont like doing this, but oh well...lol...do you guys have any ideas what it may be?...and are you experiancing the same conditions?...i have already visited my dealer, and they said that it was normal...i dont think it is...im afraid to bring it to the track, because it could get embarrassing...i hope that one of you guys can help me, and maybe someone has experianced this, and got it fixed...thank you

it is because of the large cams and the free flow exhaust.

no it's very normal and it sounds good as a matter of fact. When the dealer first started up the car in the showroom and it was echoing off the walls like that it was the coolest sound.

the sound is great, dont get me wrong...but i just think that it could be hurting the performance...inbetween shifts, the rpm should stay up and allow you to shift into the next gear easily...but when the "farts" are excessive, then thats when the rpm drops to just under 1000...it sits right where it would be at idle

why would you let your RPMs drop under 1000? :D I mean idling sure, but when I'm tearing down the road my RPMs aren't at 1000. If you friends give you a hard time just tell them its because they've never heard a perfect exhaust system before.

no no no...you misunderstood me...when im in mid shift, the rpm drops instantly...i try to keep it up...usually i can...but if im not paying attention, it will drop to 1000 rpm in a second...usually, the rpm kinda hovers for a little while so that you can shift...but sometimes mine doesnt do that...most of the time it doesnt...but when it does, it is very annoying.

uh, hmmm.....i don't have that problem. you are right the revs should stay there....and for me they do. I don't think it has anything to do with the exhaust though. sounds like you may benefit from the new ECU coming up soon.

I agree with inteller, when I shift the rpm stays the same until i finish the shift.

Dude, that sound is the resonator. Usually, resonators or resonator "tips" have some sort of fiberglass ("glass packs") inside of them that give the exhaust a tuned sound.
My friend had a little lowriding 88 Ranger and he cut the exhaust pipe to the middle of the underside of his truck. He then welded a dual tipped "glass pack" to the end of it and when ever he would shift, POP POP. He didnt have souped cams or any huge engine mods for that matter. We could hear that tip resonating off the bottom of that truck all the way uptown, almost a mile away. We always knew when Jeff was on his way. That thing was LOUD. Alot louder than my SVTF sound. The SVTF sound is more of a muffled bellow. Much tamer.
If you dont like it, go to a custom exhaust shop and have them re-tune your pipes. They will take off what you have and reconfigure it.
If you'll notice, atleast in my experience, about 3 minutes or so after the pipes, resonators, and muffler have heated to "normal operating tempature", the pop pop resonation goes away for the most part. I hear it when the car reaches N.O.T., and a few minutes after, then its pretty much gone until the car cools then it starts all over again.
IMHO, I wish it would stay all the time. I like the sound.
