OK,

Before I say anything, please keep in mind my mood is positive and don't want anything here to be misinterpreted as criticism or negativity.

For some time now I have felt that our chapter is experiencing a decline in activities and membership. This is through no lack of work by many of our core members:allhail: . However, I think we need to decide if we are going to take the chapter to a stronger position (that it deserves). I think we need to look at why we are experiencing a decline in our ranks and what we can/should do.

I would like to ask anyone that is interested in discussing our future to commit to a meeting to discuss what we want to achieve as a group and how we will get there. I feel a bit restless and I am ready for a change. I have been treasurer for some time and would love to try something new. Are you burned out in your current role and would you like to try another role? Do you want to try a "new project" to better the club?

These are things that have crossed my mind and I would like to ask if anyone else has similar thoughts. I would like to suggest that all who are interested in making this club better, agree to meet in the next few weeks. We can discuss the things we've done right (and there are many) and how we can work to improve for next year.

There is also a specific issue I would like to address. I would like to see us, as a group, decide what to do with the excess charity money we have raised. Or better still, commit as a group to a new fundraiser to add to the funds and send them to a deserving charity.

I have had a great time as part of this club and want to see it head in the right direction. I am very thankful that I have made good friends as a result of participating in this club. I am confident that if we make a conscious effort to make this club prosper, it will happen.

Please, let's not use this forum to list grievances or issues, but instead explore what we all would like to see the South Carolina chapter become.

Fast friends in SVTOA,

David

Sounds like a plan to me David. I think that a change in officers might be a could thing. I will make the effort to attend a meeting.

Well you all know I will be there unless a death or other emergency comes up. I would love to see us grow into a chapter that has a endless supply of events and members.

I feel a meeting like this would be the best thing since sliced bread. Now when do we want to do it? And where? I think we should do it in Charlston. If not I can make arrangements for the Beach. Or maybe even Georgetown.

But your right, we need to get it together. :bash:

Let us try something different. We should try and find a spot that is an equal drive for all of us. Also it should be a Sunday so Tom or others that have Saturday commitments can make it. MAYBE we can get some new blood to attend also.

I am out of town right now. I do have access to the forum though, or PMs. I will look at the map and see if I can come up with some place. Or if some one wants to host it at their home would work also.

My cell phone is iffy, but you can try it it you want to.

I spoke with Dave tonight on the phone and he asked me to
post for him.

Dave will be out of town until next Monday and does not
have internet access to be able to respond to everyone's posts.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

It would be easier for me to attend a meeting if it were held
in the Columbia area but I will attend the meeting wherever
we have it.

I suggest we have our meeting instead of our next garage day.
Our meeting would count as our get together for Aug. and have
our garage day in Sept. any suggestions?

Just let me know if you want to meet in Columbia, and I will try to find a different place, maybe somewhere in the Vista (Columbia Downtown)! Or my house in Chapin!

beerkat
08-11-2005, 05:40 AM
Tom let us do it at your house if it is not too inconvenient. I think that we need a place that does not have too many distractions.

tomsgarage
08-11-2005, 05:45 AM
Not inconvenient with me, just have to check with the wife, I am sure she will be fine with it! But just want to let you all know, that I live about 30 miles west of Columbia, and I know the drive to Myrtle Beach or Charleston is about 2 1/2 hours!

So if this is fine with everyone, just let me know! Maybe I will burn some burgers for you all!!!!!

Oh! My address is 438 Caro Ln Chapin, SC 29036, if you all want to figure out on mapquest how far of a drive you will have!

Babs and I are knee deep in construction of the new office.

sounds good Tom and thanks for stepping up. As of right now put me down for 1.

and Kim I may take you up for sure on the offer of the ride. I still do not have any answers from Doc. But if it leads in the way he is thinking my gas peddle foot is out.

No problem on the ride Rob I take the L so you will have more room.

Count me in (one). So can we have the meeting first and then do a garage thing or is that too much? I've got - new slotted rotors - engine mount - DSI clip to fix. Not that I expect to get them all done :knock:

Tom, do you know if there is a procedure in the manual for repairing the DSI clip?

Lookin forward to Sunday :bna

So if my math is correct, it looks like we wil have:

Beerkat 1

Rob 1

Lee 1

Cale 1

Dave 1

Spencer 1

Me 1

7

If anyone else is coming, please post here, cuz I sure would hate to see you go hungry!

I was thinking of meeting you all at the Chapin Exit off I-26 (Exit # 91) between 11:00 and 12:00 (or earlier!) at the Mcdonalds. That way I can give you all a tour of the Capital Of Lake Murray, before we head to the house. You all let me know what time would be good!

As far as working on cars, that should not be a problem, although, I do not have as nice a facility as Beerkat has! But there is space to work on one or two cars, problem is there is not a driveway leading to my shop due to neighborhood restrictions (but thats another story!) So we should be able to do some work.

Dave, I would be happy to look up how to replace the DSI Clip, but I do not know what it is??? And I think Spence would be glad to help you with your brakes and engine mount!!

Let me know your thoughts, and if you want to meet earlier, that is fine also!!

Rob - sorry to hear about the foot. Hope it heals quickly. If you need some help kickin @$$, I'll lend you my foot.

Tom - thank for the help. DSI is Dual Stange Intake. The intake is moved between two positions via a motor in the front fender that is connected to the intake via a cable. Where the cable meets the intake it is conected by a plastic clip. That clip is broken. I'm trying to get my hands on one now, but am not sure I can get one by Sunday. I'll bring my stuff and if time permits, I'd love to do the front brakes again.

See you guys Sunday.

Tom - what can I bring food/drink wise.

tomsgarage
08-18-2005, 05:19 AM
Yup, rain or shine, as far as I am concerned. Also we may want to take a field trip after lunch! If everything works out right, we might be able to have a SECRET showing of a FORD GT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our Ford GT was shipped Monday, so hopefully it will be here today or tomorrow, lets keep our fingers crossed :)

You all just bring your selfs, I will have everything there, just gonna cook up some hamburgers and chips! Still need a final count for the food though, so let me know!

Beerkat, you might want to bring your tent, I have a good selection of tools and a floor jack and stands, so we should be able to muddle through!

Dave, I will check on installation of that clip, I will let you know!

You all may want to be prepared for hot and humid Columbia weather, cuz the forecast for Sunday is 95 with a heat index approaching 105!

Later

I will bring the tent and Rob. I was thinking of what Patches had told me about the traffic leaving the beach on Sunday mornings. Rob and I might be running a little/lot behind depending on the traffic.. I am going to try and find a route to keep me off 501 so I might run 378. I have you numbers Tom so I will call and let you know where we are.
Looking forward to Sunday!!!

Great news! Sounds like a field trip is in order. OK, so if we each put one mile on the car, no one would notice, right!

I'll be happy to get a picture with the car :bna It's red?

Come on weekend!

I am planning on being at the McDonalds Sunday morning about 11:30. My cell phone # is (803) 240-9856 and I will have it on in case you get lost! I will have food and drinks for about 10 people, in case anyone else shows up!

The Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Advisory for today and tomorrow for Columbia, Heat Index of 110 degrees! So if it gets to hot to work on cars, we can take a field trip to Lexington so you all can see the FORD GT!!!
