I have recently experienced the stall when decelerating, almost losing control of the car. This is obviously a dangerous situation and not particular to one individual.

How do we go about informing Ford of the problem, having them do the necessary research and getting a fix in place?

We shouldn't wait for someone to wrap their car around a pole (or worse) before we act.

That's strange, Ford just bought back my friend's '02 GT under the lemon law for the same thing. The engine would cut off as he was decelerating and it seemed prone to do it when he was making right hand turns as well. We were told it would be returned to Dearborn where it's completely torn down and inspected to try and find the problem.

More than likely, Ford will do nothing to the car except bring it to another state and sell it again.

Mine also had almost stalled making a right turn at low speed and also a couple of times while pulling out of the gas station after refueling, the engine warning green light came out! Car slowed down to a crawl, gave it gas and came back to life.

Is this related to the Traction Control system?

check this thread

More than likely the GREEN check engine light that you refer to is the traction light coming on and it will feel as if your car has lost power and wants to stahl..This is how it is supposed to work...(just remeber to turn off traction control, so the light IS on) I am talking about the car stahling at highway and above speeds when you lift the pedal the car completly stahls and all engine dash lights come on.

Thanks for the clarification Jr.

I've had mine at over 125 mph, and anyhting else in between, hard launches to red line, slow ones, and my car did not stall like you explain. I guess TSB #16293 does not apply in my case?

Question is: should Ford recall the car for the TC? I've had other cars with TC and NEVER had problems with it, ON or OFF.

Let me tell you guys alot of the Cobras and GT's are have the stalling probelm because people are changing the air filter. The new system does not work well with intake swaps. So make sure yours is installed correctly and does not tweak the Mass Air.

That usually only happens if you 're-charge' your K&N with too much fluid and the fluid runs up in the sensor

Its happening with all the MAC cold air systems for the 03's and the gt's.

Is what I have on my "first-run" Mineral Grey 03 Cobra and it did stall on me early in a.m. two days in a row. But...has not done it since and the car has at least 2000 more miles on it. I think you are correct about "filter oil saturation" on the new K&Ns. They are cherry-red in color when you first get them. The car runs great now and I love the extra intake noise with the open element filter.

I only have the stall problem when the track control is on, this site has a track control disable that may help Rachrsww.ponyexpressperformance.com...ioncontrol.htm! (http;/www.ponyexpressperformance.com...iocontrol.htm!)

Walt sounds like you have a air leak or loose connection on intake side of mass air ????????

Jr problem sounds like the TSB same problem my buddy was
having had tsb run and fixed it!

THANKS

I changed stock filter element with a K&N. Shortly there after the idle became erratic. Haven't had the stall problem other than when I forget to turn off traction control. Is there something I need to tweak, short of replacement of K&N with stock element to correct idle?

My 2nd run Cobra has stalled twice in the first 140 miles, no mods whatsoever.

This sounds exactly like when this forum was started a couple years back. All the '99 owners were fired up because of pinging motors and everything else. I'm not sure if a resolution was ever reached for those folks either, but good luck.. :knock:

My Torch Red Coupe is a 1st run car with only 3,400 miles on it since 06/28 and it hasn't stalled yet. It is all stock so maybe that has something to do with it.

JT COBRA was referring to this TSB:

16293 2003 MUSTANG COBRA - STALL ON DECEL SOME 2003 MUSTANG COBRA VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT AN ENGINE QUIT CONDITION ON DECELERATION. THE ENGINE WILL RESTART IMMEDIATELY. THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY THE CALIBRATION OF THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM). TO SERVICE, VERIFY CONDITION & REPROGRAM THE PCM WITH THE LATEST CALIBRATION AVAILABLE VIA THE JUST IN TIME PROCESS IF YOUR WDS COMMUNICATES WITH FORDSTAR. CALIBRATIONS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ON THE PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN SOCIETY (PTS) WEBSITE - SELECT 'WDS' THEN 'PCM REPROGRAMMING' AND CLICK 'INSTRUCTIONS' FOR DOWNLOADING. THE CALIBRATIONS WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE ON WDS RELEASE B21.3.e

This resolution is ineffective. I recalibrated my PCM about a month ago. After this TSB was released. I continue to experience intermittent stalls. Others have reported the same.

My girlfriend hates fords.. I was trying to defend this one.. oh well... Ill go complain to the dealer this morning... Mine only seems to do it after some expressway driving and getting to an off ramp...

I am interested in doing upgrades at this time, but I am still hesitant about it because of the ticking of the engine and lack of knowledge for these late model motors. Besides the 2001 Cobra I raced last night didn't seem hard to beat, even with all of his modifications. Although I really want a more intimidating exhaust sound, instead of the very popular "Food Processor" sound of the whirlly bird under the hood.

My vert is stock. The car stalled twice in September, pulled out of the driveway went to shift to second tach went to zero, let out the clutch restarted. Second time a little spirited driving hard on the brakes and down shifting, stopped idled for a second, died, restarted. Third time was in November died at the stop light. :wtf: Haven,t had that problem since. Bought the car 8 Aug, F301899, build date 7/02, miles today 9205.
Fortunatly my only other real problem at this time is a shifter that hates third gear. Going to swap it for a Steeda soon. Want the regional rep to drive the car first.
Overall I'm happy with mine. :tmb: :tmb: :tmb:
