I have an black 03 Cobra and desperately need a tint job. Anyone know where I should go to get the darkest tint possible? Should this be an out-of-state trip? I know Oklahoma has some strict rules so I thought I'd see what everyone else did.
Also, anything special they have to do for the bubbled surface onthe rear window? Just wondering...
Thanks!

I just had my 03 Cobra tinted with 5% tint (darkest you can get) by a guy here in Tulsa. I can send you his contact information if you are interested - he does a great job. No need to go out of state at all.
He uses a heat gun and some special adhesive to make it stick to the bubbled surface on the top of the rear window. He also does the rear window in one piece unlike most other shops that do them in two pieces.
It's dark trying to see out at night, but we rarely get this car out, especially at night. 5% on a black car would look very good. Shoot me an e-mail at svt03cobra@cox.net if you are interested.
Here are a few pics of my car after the tint job...

JP at Auto Distinctions can do it. as long as HE does it and not one of his monkeys.

Heath.....JP was the one who did my tint.......each time.....and NEVER got it right. It wasn't one of his "monkeys".

He did my friend's Prius and did a good job recently. I'm sure every place has a bad job.

After redoing the tint on my car THREE TIMES and STILL can't get it right?
I don't think so.
A "bad job" would have been him screwing it up the first time and then fixing it.
Screwing it up, refusing to fix until I insist that he does, then screwing it up again and then struggling to get him to fix AGAIN, and THEN SCREWING IT UP AGAIN has gone SO FAR PAST a "bad job" that it isn't even funny....

I know JP from my daughter's softball team. From what I remember, he never would do anything that wasn't legal... that's why I never used him, also his price was quite high compared to the guy I'm mentioning... Legal tint in OK is 35%, which is barely noticable.

actually its 25% around
http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html
but I mean you cant blame him for not doing things illegal. he does business with a lot of dealerships and if word got out he was breaking the law he would lose a lot of business.
He may be a little high, I'm not sure as I've never shopped around. I do know he is one of the few that can properly apply Clearbra, and I've had good experience with him in that regard, as has my friend.
I know some of you have had bad experiences, but I think you could say that about any tint shop in town. I'm not defending him, other than the one good experience I've had dealing with him. Just trying to put a well rounded perspective on things.

Somewhere here I've gotten confused... the purpose of this guy's original post was to get the darkest tint possible (even if he has to go out of state), so he won't get that with JP.
Don't get me wrong, I don't blame him for not doing anything illegal, but some of us want darker than what is legal and must go elsewhere unfortunately.

SVTMOMMY on here has dark tint. If she reads this thread she might be able to tell you where to go.

?? As I said in my previous post, this is as dark as it gets... done locally for less than $100. Hard to beat... the guy works for a local tint shop and does it on the side. Let me know if anyone wants his info.

JP will put darker tint on, he just won't put his advertising on the window. Chris has her tint put on there and it is 20%.
Oh, and I paid about $250 for my tint job from JP because I heard many good things about him. I am still VERY pissed that my tint is not right after paying that much......

I would contact Brent Patterson at The Collision Center of Tulsa, 918-665-8100. He will give SVTOA members a discount on body work and stuff.
As far as getting the darkest tint. I would stay within the laws of the state you are in. If you go out of state and get it darker, you will get a ticket in OK and they can make you remove it. The law is for a reason. It is to protect you and and law enforcement officers. I know officers who if the tink is too dark will have their gun park way out when pulling over a car.
Just my opinion.

5% is too dark on a daily driven mustang....trust me, I worked in a mobile audio shop for awhile, and everyone that came to us for 5% came back *****ing about how they had to roll down their window at night to see to back up. 20% on a black car looks very very good, and you'll have 0 visibility problems.....and to clear up some confusion, the legal limit in oklahoma is 25%, but the two front windows must be at least one shade lighter than the rears. but since the po-po's don't carry light meters around with them, there is no possible way to receive a ticket for too dark of tint. the only thing I've heard of is someone getting in an accident, and excessive tint was put down as a factor in the crash.

5% isn't too bad on mine, but I don't drive it much at all. It's lucky to get 1,000 miles per year if that. Not much night driving because of the bug splattering that goes on.
If you get pulled over with 5%, you just roll the windows down and put your hands on the steering wheel so they can see you. My neighbor is a TPD officer and he says they won't pull you over just for tint.

Jason's right...JP did my tint & did 20%. I thought he did a good job..but then, his brother referred us.
Just for the record, Eddie had 5% put on my red Firebird (the car before my Focus) that was way to dark...when I was younger, it was great on my Mustang!! I never had a problem with getting pulled over, well, not because of the tint..JK

JP, please turn on your PM acceptance so I can reply to the PM you sent me regarding this situation. That way I don't have to reply to it in here.

I got my 04 Focus SVT done at Alta Mere, for $160, 5%, and it looks AWESOME, 1 piece rear window, and the sides were computer cut, seamlessly. He has it and the new alarm done in about 4 hours, and it dried in about 2 days I recommend them seriously! He even dropped me off since my wife was at work. Awesome service. BTW, got pulled over in Creek county once, he HAD a light meter, bi***Ed me out, then i told him it came that way lol, and he let me go.
